Nattokinase is an enzyme produced during the fermentation of soybeans with the microorganism Bacillus subtilis natto. It originates from Japan, where the traditional food natto has been consumed for centuries. Nattokinase is offered as a standardized extract in dietary supplements. Its activity is expressed in fibrinolytic units (FU).
